Dr. Martin J. Blahnik is a neonatologist working in various Las Vegas hospitals for 17 years now. But to the residents of Beatty, Nevada—officially certified as the Gateway to Death Valley—he is fondly known as “Desert Doc.” He is well-known in the area for his longtime passion for desert landscape photography and his absolute love for the nearby Death Valley National Park. For that reason, this writer-photographer plans to retire in Beatty.

The park has been the subject of all his artistic work, leading to him also developing an encyclopedic knowledge of its history as well as the science of its environment.

Here is the title to Blahnik's first of a planned three-set autobiography series: My Autobiography the Prequel: Volume 1, the Conception of “thy Death Valley House” for Beatty, Nevada.

All three books will have “thy Death Valley House” in their titles. The Desert Doc purchased property in Beatty, then designed and plans to build the titular “thy Death Valley House” at this location at 210 West Main Street. It is to have a Gift Shop and the Death Valley Galleries on two floors. But far from just talking about himself, the author intentionally employs a “universality” approached to writing where he engages topics many people will be interested in generally; for example, there is an entire–long–dramatic chapter dedicated to Death Valley's notorious episode of housing the Manson Family hippie cult during the 1960s.

Dr. Blahnik is excited about expanding readership for his series, as his rich experiences in life–e.g., living in Europe, working in Neonatal Medicine, and of course, adventuring in Death Valley for thirty years now–have given him much to share; and that includes from an artistic, scientific, and historical perspective as a scholar.

The book is already set to exhibit at the upcoming Los Angeles Times Festival of Books 2025, happening on April 26-27, 2025, at the University of Southern California, where Dr. Blahnik was on faculty as an Assistant Professor of Clinical Pediatrics (1999-2007). The book will be displayed by the self-publishing and book-marketing company ReadersMagnet at booth #225.

My Autobiography the Prequel: Volume 1, the Conception of “thy Death Valley House” for Beatty, Nevada, by Martin J. Blahnik, MD, the “Desert Doc” is available on Amazon and Barnes & Noble. Author Bio
Martin J. Blahnik, MD, fancifully the “Desert Doc” per his business moniker, has been a practicing neonatologist in Las Vegas NICUs (neonatal intensive care units) since 2007. Before that, he was on faculty in Los Angeles at the University of Southern California as an Assistant Professor of Clinical Pediatrics. But it is his decades' long creative efforts as a desert landscape photographer (professional work is only focused on Death Valley National Park), and the proclivity to pay close attention to an innate urge to commune with his broadly uninhibited creativity, which are introduced primarily in this first volume of a three-set autobiography. Let the journey begin…let the artist's life plan be unleashed.
